Business School Rankings - What You Need To Know
Back in the day when I was applying for college, I used to want nothing more than to get into a good business program that would give me the
credentials to earn a lot of money. I used to think that top business school ranking was everything.
I knew I was smart enough to get good grades, so I thought if I found a high ranking business school, it would be the key to my success. Dont
get me wrong, I did send out applications to some promising state schools, but what I really wanted was to land a position in some top ranked
business school. After all, business school rankings were respected by the leaders in the industry.
In the end it was a rather plain spoken friend of mine who told me differently. He told me very simply that any idiot can get into business
school. He said that people looking to hire me would not look at business school rankings, that they would look at other things. Other things
like whether I could communicate, lead or even think clearly.
He told me that undergraduate busines school ranking was not respected, an MBA is not a sign of competency. This same friend told me that I
should be looking at economic programs rather than looking for a school with high business school ranking. Even if I were to get a double major
with an MBA, it would still be secondary to the quality of an economics program.
Economics were always highly sought after, because they could think clearly, and knew the ins and outs of business finance. Now I was
sceptical of my friends advice, but still I followed it. Do you know what, he was right. I decided to scrap the idea of going to a high business
ranking school, and went to a strong economics program instead.
As soon as I left school, I was immediately hired. Within a few years, I was making six figures.
